The first book I read of his was his first, a trade paperback called The Big U, which I should have sold for $400 on eBay, the going price until he finally let them reprint it. Snow Crash remains his best, and I admire the brilliant but ultimately flawed Cryptonomicon.

I like Stephenson, but man, dude needs an editor sometimes. And I find his endings to be weak, though there are really some bravura passages in his books — “blazing chariot of pepperoni fire” in Snow Crash hooked me.
