Susan,

Thanks for your comment and the names of the other guests; I had a hard time catching those, and they weren't listed on the Web site when I looked. I do understand the point that hosts don't support products they don't personally use or support. It still seems like a slippery slope to me, but the medium is new.

Thanks for covering TWiMs Podcast Advertising episode.

To reply to your concern about hosts and sponsors and how we promote them, every host selects the sponsors they want and doesn't choose brands that they cannot get behind. There are sometimes hosts who decline to take a campaign on their show if they feel in any way that the association would compromise their integrity or alienate their audience.

The hosts also tell us who they'd like as a sponsor - we intentionally pursue brands to sponsor the show that are brands we think our listeners will like or that we like.

Examples include Stuffbak loss protection stickers for our gadgets; Meditation Timers and Gongs from MyMeditation.com, Audible for downloadable books and many more! These are all great brands we love and so do our listeners.

The promotion by the hosts is heartfelt. They really appreciate the brand underwriting their show. They are happy to get the word out to their fans and followers. And often we've negotiated a special deal for our listeners you can't find elsewhere.

Hope that makes sense.

Oh, and it was Annette Fuller from Bautista Direct Marketing and Pinny Gniwisch of ICE.com who were the other guests on TWiM last week.

All the best,
Susan Bratton

Ian,

Thanks for the comment. I enjoyed the podcast if that wasn't clear (sometimes it isn't; I wouldn't bother writing about it if there wasn't something worth thinking about). The original "Lethal Weapon" is a great Christmas movie, though my feelings about Mel Gibson are more conflicted than the first time I watched it.

Thanks for the review of the podcast. We've been doing it for almost 2 years now in there you'll find a variety of podcast contexts and tones depending on the kind of movie and the mood of the reviewer. We're not trying to pander unless we make it clear in a somewhat condescending manner that it is our intention (see the Apologia in full). Hopefully you'll enjoy our next few podcasts which will be one about Lethal Weapon for Christmas and then a 2008 year in review.
